The Fairtrade Fairmined gold standard was launched in London on 14th Feb. 2011 and I was fortunate enough to be one of the first 21 license holders. Before that I had been using recycled metals as what I could see to be the most responsible and ethical way of working as a goldsmith.
What the Fairtrade standard offers is a supported strategy for sustainable business practice. Be it in coffee, chocolate or gold, the Fairtrade logo provides the consumer with a symbol of trust.
The Fairtrade Foundation work very closely with the farmers and miners involved to ensure a fair price is paid for their product and that minimal environmental damage is done as a result of this practice.
When and how did you start to be interested in fair-trade market?
A prominent celebrity wearing and talking about Fairtrade Fairmined gold gets it into the public awareness faster than many other forms of communication.
